At the end of March 2017, the European Commission is launching the third edition of the European Capital of Innovation award, to celebrate the most innovative European city after Barcelona (2014) and Amsterdam (2016).
This year, the new Capital of Innovation will receive EUR 1 000 000 to scale up its innovation activities. The second and the third ranked cities will receive EUR 100 000 each.
The contest will be open to cities:
- from EU Member States or countries associated to Horizon 2020, the EU’s research and innovation programme;
- having over 100 000 inhabitants (in countries where there is no such a city, the largest city is eligible to apply);
Applicant cities will be judged by an independent panel of external evaluators on their innovative solutions to relevant societal challenges, reported in their application.
You can apply by 21 June 2017, 17:00 (Brussels time).
